We are delighted to let you know that that we will be hosting a Bikers Breakfast this Thursday. Please join us in our Infant Playground where Dr Bike Mechanics will be carrying out free bike checks and minor bike repairs between 8am-10am. Please bring your child bike in for some cycling TLC. This is the ideal opportunity for children taking part in Bike Around the Borough to have a free bike check before the big event. Delicious refreshments too!

Meet the Catering Team and Ashlyns Taster Evening

Pleased to let you know that we had some wonderful feedback from our families during our taster evening. Families were invited to meet our brilliant catering team and sample all the delicious foods that are part of Ashlyns lunchtime menus. It was also an opportunity to meet our Catering Manager from Ashlyns Farm and explore ideas about how we can make our dining and lunchtime experience even better! We will be hosting taster sessions each time our lunch menus change so do watch out for details of the next one.

We sang ‘Happy Together’ and ‘Sit Down You’re rocking the Boat’ – as an encore ! Then we joined with Betty Layward choir to sing ‘It must be Love’.  The evening raised over £1000 !  There are plans now for our choirs to join together again….watch this space !

If you are interested in joining our fantastic choir come along to the music room on Mondays from 6.30-7.30. It’s free, friendly, lots of fun and includes all levels of singers.

We then went outside to look at the area around the very first old Victorian sewage works, which has now been transformed into a beautiful nature reserve. We even got to look down into the old brick pipework and saw toads jumping in the water !

Everyone had an amazing day, I hope we go back!

We had sushi from Japan, Oliebollen, new year cakes from Holland, salt fish fritters from Jamaica, rhubarb and custard from England, kelwele from Ghana, jollof rice, and many many more dishes.

The nursery children made banana bread for the party, and over the half term we made bread, fruit kebabs, grew cress to make cream cheese and cress sandwiches and vegetable soup.

The children now have a better understanding of how to prepare food and had the chance to try new things. The vegetable soup was the most popular dish surprisingly, and the whole topic was one of the most popular we do.

Thanks to all who made this such a brilliant half term.

The Nursery Team

Grazebrook grabbed victory in an end-to-end 8-goal thriller against Shacklewell last Friday. The football team secured a 5-3 win in the end, despite Shacklewell pinching an early lead after only 2 minutes, followed by strong penalty claims for handball which were dismissed by the referee. Despite a shaky start, Grazebrook soon settled and grew in confidence in the presence of a loud Shak-supporting crowd on the touchline, and soon found themselves in the lead after a brace from Jonas, leaving them in a very commanding position by half-time.

Sir Alex might be retiring but Coach Max stepped forward as somewhat of a managerial prodigy as he made the most of a strong squad to make clever substitutions which played a big part in this Grazebrook victory. The constant rotation of players bamboozled the Shacklewell backline who were unable to cope with the fresh legs, namely those of Ademola and Tivarne who came on and played superbly in midfield. The variation of tactics played its part also, especially in attack; at times playing some excellent football on the ground but also utilising goalkeeper Rocky’s often impressive goal kicks which created many chances for the GB strikers, especially Jonas who after the half-time break bagged another goal to complete his hat-trick. Tivarne and Djamil completed the scoring for Grazebrook.

It was a nervy end as Shacklewell toe-poked a goal home in the last few minutes to make it 5-3, but despite a frantic finish, Grazebrook held on to victory and tied the overall score between Shacklewell and Grazebrook to 1-1 . One more game before the school year ends?

This morning the team played a round robin of 6 games each competing against other teams of four from Hackney schools. There were 15 in total including William Patten, Grasmere, Jubilee, Betty Layward, Gayhurst, & Colvestone.

Scores were turned into points and after a chilly lunch, the play offs began with each team member competing in a final match.

Points were tallied and Grazebrook leapt into 10th position on the leader board. Not a bad days work!
