The Curriculum

English is taught through the use of Success For All (SFA), all children in KS1 and KS2 are grouped according to their reading ability from Monday until Thursday. On Friday, they stay with their class teachers to be taught a focussed extended writing session that is based around our IPC topics. For phonics we use the SFA Fast Track Phonics programme in Reception and KS1.  We also use Accelerated Reader in KS2 and Year 2 when they are ready. This enhances our reading program and challenges the children to be independent learners.

Maths is taught using the Mathematics Mastery program in Year 1 and Primary Advantage Framework from Years 2 to 6. These schemes are based on approaches from Singapore and the current draft Mathematics National Curriculum.

As a school, we also use the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) to enhance our curriculum. IPC is effective in enabling pupils to apply skills and knowledge acquired in English, Maths, Science and other curriculum areas in a purposeful and concrete way.  The school has linked all topic areas to the key skills children should learn in Science, History, Geography, DT, Art and Music/Dance.  Each topic is also linked to a parent expert and this has been pivotal in developing parental engagement and support of the school’s curriculum.

Please click on the links below for helpful leaflets which explain our approaches to the above schemes.
