Teaching and Learning

child smiling in classAt Grazebrook School, we have high expectations of what the children can achieve. We believe that children learn best when:

  • They are encouraged to feel good about themselves and are able to believe in themselves as learners and so enjoy learning.
  • They are supported and encouraged in their learning.
  • They are given equal opportunities to gain full access to the curriculum.

Foundation Stage

In Nursery and Reception, the curriculum is organised into six inter-related areas
of learning:

  • personal, social and emotional development
  • communication, language and literacy
  • mathematical development
  • knowledge and understanding of the world
  • physical development
  • creative development.

Key Stage 1 (ages 5 – 7) and Key Stage 2 (ages 8 – 11)

In both these Key Stages, children follow the National Curriculum. This involves
the teaching of four core subjects:

  • Literacy
  • Numeracy
  • Science
  • Information and Communication Technology

and seven foundation subjects:

  • History
  • Geography
  • Art
  • Music
  • PE
  • Design Technology
  • PSHCE along with Religious Education.
